Overdrive Pedals

Overdrive pedals were invented in the 1970s. The idea was to emulate the sound of a cranked tube amplifier by “soft clipping” an amplified signal. This involves placing a pair of back-to-back diodes in the feedback loop of the circuit. The Ibanez Tube Screamer, Boss SD-1, and Marshall Bluesbreaker are all notable overdrives.
